Scott obtained his B A in Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting from Portland State University. He began his career at Grant Thornton, an international CPA firm. Coming from an entrepreneurial family, and having met his experience requirement for a Certified Public Accountant’s license, he left to form his own CPA practice in 1991. Scope of practice includes business formation, general business and finance consulting, income tax planning and preparation, business valuation, mergers and acquisitions, venture capital, and risk management. He has experience in a wide variety of industries and has owned and managed construction companies and a tech assembly and retail operation.
In 2001, Scott was approached regarding succession planning for Arnold Bruce & Doerfler Insurance Agency. The agency traces its roots back to Gerlinger, Richards & Company founded in 1911. John Doerfler had purchased the agency from his father-in-law, Jack Arnold in 1978. Scott joined the agency and, in 2004, purchased it from his father-in-law, John Doerfler. Arnold, Bruce & Doerfler provides comprehensive insurance and bonding solutions, both personal and commercial.
Scott is married to Jill Shoen, née Doerfler. They have one son, Calen, who is pursuing a civil engineering degree at The University of Colorado, Boulder. They enjoy motorcycling and alpine skiing as a family. Scott is active in the community and is a crisis counseling volunteer with the National Suicide Hotline and the Veteran's Crisis Line.
