The squealing sound that your car brakes make can be a signal to people that a car is running towards them. However, if you make a very loud squeaking sound, you may give the impression that you are driving a garbage truck and it may scare people off. The noise that your brake pads make is caused by many factors including the brake pads that you use. Carbon metallic brake pads is the usual suspect for squeaky brakes while OEM brake pads are more quiet. Although it may seem like changing your brake pads is the most logical solution, there are other factors that may cause this problem. For example, if your brakes make a loud sound just as you are stopping, it may be caused by your brake pads vibration against your vehicle’s rotor or caliper. If you hear noises at different times, you need to also make sure that one of your brake pads are not worn out. There are times when one of your brake pads wear out faster than the other one.
If you’re really curious about how you can stop your brake pads from squeaking, here are some useful tips to follow. Use Brake Pad Vibration Damper Pads A great way to reduce the squeaking sound made by your brake pads is by using brake pad vibration damper pads. You can find them in your local auto supply and usually come as a sticky fiber material that you can place at the back of your brake plates. These fiber materials are known to act as a cushion to soften the vibrations made by your brake pad. The extra clearance provided by the material is also said to eliminate the squealing sound made by brake pads. Use Anti Squeal Spray Believe it or not, brake pad squealing has become such a problem that anti-squeals were invented. All you have to do is spray the back of your pads with a high-quality product to prevent squeaking. A good brand that is recommended by professionals is Wurth. The product comes in a spray can and creates a great adhesive at the back of your brake plates creating a cushion for less vibration. Use High Temperature Anti-Seize Coating You have to be careful if you decide to try this option as you only need to coat the areas that get in contact with your piston. Keep in mind that you don’t want the anti-seize to coat the front of your brake pads or the vehicle’s rotor. Make sure that you use high temperature anti-seize and only use a small amount when coating the contact areas. For mechanics, this is only used as a temporary fix. It’s great to know about the quick fixes that you can do for your vehicle. However, it’s best to have it insured for peace of mind. Sometimes the brakes produce squealing noise. This is due to a number of reasons. Those are - worn out pads, glazed pads and rotors, broken anti rattle clips, lack of pad insulation etc. Hard braking or slamming on the brakes for a long time also creates squealing noise. A great way to reduce the squealing noise is by using brake pad vibration damper pads which come as sticky fiber material which act as a cushion to soften vibrations made by the brake pad. The other ways are- using anti squeal spray and a high temperature anti-seize coating.

Thank you for explaining that sometimes one brake pad can wear down faster than the other. My sister was telling me that she has to replace her brake pads again this year and has been a little concerned about it. I'll be sure to share this with her so she can check if only one of them needs to be replaced.
