Most young adults in the U.S. between the ages of 18 and 24 think they are healthy in spite of their unhealthy habits. What they don’t know yet is that they are not that invincible. These young people can be afflicted with heart diseases without a warning. If you belong in this age bracket, it is important to be knowledgeable about these deadly heart risks. Here are some factors that have an impact on the condition of your heart.
Inactive Lifestyle As the advent of computers and Internet has brought a lot of benefits to mankind, it also created a lot of inactive people. In these modern times, people prefer to be in front of their computers or mobile phones than doing outdoor activities. Playing online games seems to be more fun and convenient than traditional games. Reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease by exercising at least 30 minutes a day. Swimming, kickboxing, jogging, and brisk walking are good forms of cardiovascular exercises. Too Much Intake of Salt One of the reasons why fast food is considered unhealthy is because of their salt content. Consuming high amount of salt every day can increase the risk of heart disease. If you like to eat junk foods, you may choose the ones with low salt content. Alcoholic Drinks Young people enjoy drinking alcoholic beverages, but this habit is detrimental for the heart. If you want to live longer with a healthy heart, limit your alcohol consumption. If you cannot stop the habit altogether, go for one drink or even less a day. Binge drinking is a no-no for the health of the heart. Soft Drinks/Energy Drinks Sodas are tasty but they do not have nutritional value. What they have is a lot of calories. While chocolate milk or fruit juices have some nutrients in them, the amount of calories in them can lead to weight gain. Instead of these beverages, opt for skim milk, natural fruit juice, or plain water. This also goes for energy drinks. Even though the makers of these products focus more on the young consumers, it could also be a contributing factor to heart problems. They contain calories, sugar, and unknown stimulants that can affect the health of the heart. If you think that heart disease is only common to older people, then you are wrong. The statistics are not lying; young people are not immune to heart risks. Protect you heart and your overall health by ingesting proper food and drinks. In the process, get yourself health insurance to further protect yourself.
