It's summertime, and you can feel the heat coming. How good would it feel to be sitting indoors in the cool air of your air conditioner? However, with prolonged use of the air conditioning also comes a more expensive electric bill. If you are looking to cut down on your utilities, but want to cool your home, here are some helpful ideas. OPEN AND CLOSE THE RIGHT DOORS
Within your home, you will have many doors. Each room will usually have one. Check which area in your home usually gets a good breeze. Leave the door open in these areas to let the breeze circulate within your home. Alternatively, close the doors on areas where sunlight comes in. WINDOWS HACKS A lot of heat enter your home through the windows. The key here is to block the sunlight. It is where blinds or blackout curtains come in. You may want to invest in nice window shades to keep it insulated. Keep the heat from sunlight out of your home. For windows that have a nice breeze, hang a moist cloth. Cool the breeze as it passes through the thin cloth. Conduct a study on which window has a downwind and which has upwind if you want to take it further. Open the top section for downwind windows and open the bottom section for upwind windows. It helps air circulate better and getting rid of hot air. COOK OUTDOORS Enjoy the sun and dry weather by having a barbeque in the backyard. Cooking and using the oven indoors will add up to the heat inside your home. It's the perfect excuse to fire up the grill and enjoy a cold one while cooking. CHANGE THE SHEETS AND BULBS If you still are using incandescent bulbs, here's another reason to switch. LED bulbs may be more expensive, but they last longer and use less electricity. Change your sheets to more summer friendly materials. A breathable cloth that can help keep you cool as you sleep.
